New York, New adventures For a straight 4 days I stayed in N.Y.C. It was extremely exhausting but extremely interesting and fun. We stayed in a phenomenal hotel. It was the Marriott Marquis Hotel in the middle of Times Square. We ate really good and bad food. The first place we went to was “juniors”. It had a lot of food options But I feel like a lot of those fields were not that good. I ordered the Mac in cheese they had on the menu. It was not the best, but it was not the worst either. But later on it it made my stomach hurt. For breakfast we went to a a café that, was not that bad actually. The first time we went, I got pancakes and hash browns. It was actually better that a lot of cafés. It it was a buffet. The second time we went, I got the salmon sandwich, (AKA, the number one). It was all homemade and it had cream cheese, onions and smoked salmon on a bagel. That day I also got yogurt and hash browns. But my favorite restaurant was this pasta place where you could put on whatever you wanted in the pasta. My pasta was Penne with Alfredo sauce and shrimp. I loved it. The hotel was so cool. If you look up at the ceiling from the inside, it looks like it’s never ending. Also the place where we had the GCAP meetings was so interesting. It was called the Sky Lobby. But the rooms were huge for New York. The hotel called the New Yorker had rooms that were tiny. But this hotel’s rooms had two beds and a pull - out sofa bed. And there was so much extra space there two. The trip was phenomenal New York was phenomenal. -Asad

Every year the 6th grade at WMS goes to New York for GCAP. GCAP is a organization that shows children how to become a global citizen and to present NGOs to sponsor. This year we had a few very interesting NGO organizations come present to us. There was Save the Rain, BRAC, Vision For and From Children and This Star Won't Go Out. From these organizations the 2018 GCAP group decided that Save the Rain was to be the NGO (non-governmental organization) that we supported. Ever wonder what is happening in countries without water? How does it affect them? How are people helping to solve these problems? There are many ways that water scarcity affects people, most of them are bad. The most problematic of these effects is just not having water to drink. Humans can’t last more than three days without water. Meaning that people in water scarce environments have to spend most of their time finding and carrying water. That time could be spent on education or farming. Even if they have water, it may not be clean. There are countless types of bacteria, parasites and unhealthy elements like lead, arsenic and mercury in the water. These are just some of the problems water scarce communities are facing. There are some helpful organizations that are trying to combat water starved villages in Africa. One is Save the Rain. This NGO focuses on the rain for a natural water source. They made large tanks on the side of large buildings like schools and big houses. These tanks were connected to the roof by a pipe, then there is the gutter that channels the water from the roof into the tank. This helps gather clean rain water so children and women don’t have to walk for miles finding water. This free time can be used on education or farming. Jacob
On this overnight trip my class and I went to Washington D.C. It was so much fun. We went to museums and to many monuments and memorials. I went to the Natural History Museum and the Air and Space Museum. My favorite was the Air and Space Museum because we got to see this show and I got to wear a fake space spacesuit. But put that aside, I will be writing about the exhibits we saw. In the Natural History Museum I saw many interesting exhibits such as fake animals and humans from hundreds of thousands of years ago but my favorite exhibit was the wall full of old skulls. In the Air and Space Museum my favorite exhibits were the show and the different kinds of planes. There were so many interesting designs of planes; one was shaped almost like a box. This picture you see on the top is from the Air And Space Museum in the Smithsonian Institution. This plane is a very old plane named “Spirit of St. Louis” that was flown in 1927 from New York to Paris. - Asad Sultan
